HOMEWORK:
The homework assignments and due dates (Fridays, except for the
November 29 assignment) are included on a separate page. Most of the
homework is to be submitted electronically, through the website
www.webassign.com. Your webassign username will be the initial of your first followed by your last name. Your password will be your university identification number. Please change your password (to anything you please) the first time you use webassign. Make sure you can access the assignments before the first homework is due. The process is fairly straightforward
but you should familiarize yourself with it well before the time the first assignment is due. Please contact Prof. Kaufman by email if you have a login problem.
(Occasionally
some homework may be assigned to be submitted directly to us; any such
assignments will be in addition to those on the accompanying page and
will be made at least a week before they will be due.)
Late assignments will not be accepted.
RECITATION:
Attendance at recitation is required. Recitation will consist of
a quiz and/or a variety of problem-solving activities. Your final
recitation grade will be the average of all but the lowest of your
quiz scores.
HOUR EXAMS: 4, 75-minute
exams will be given in class. The exams will be closed book and closed
notes, but one 3"x5" index card with any information you can fit onto
it may be brought to each exam. Do not expect such a card to be a
replacement for understanding the subject, or in fact to help you at all. Calculators are not
essential but are allowed. The exams will consist of
homework/recitation-type problems and others. Only the three highest
exams scores will be used to determine the hour exam part of your final
grade. No makeup exams will be given.
FINAL EXAM: The final will cover the entire course. It will be closed
book and closed notes, but you may bring four 3"x5" index cards with any
information you want on them.
