National Cancer Institute nanotechnology grant

The Nanotechnology Program of the National Cancer Institute awarded a $3.5 million grant to Drs Andreev and Reshetnyak of the URI Physics Department jointly with Dr. Engelman of Yale University's Biophysics and Biochemistry Department. The research funds will be used to develop a novel pHLIP (pH Low Insertion Peptide) nanotechnology platform to target diseased tissue. The technique is based on fundamental studies of the interaction of proteins with cell membrane and the folding of membrane proteins in the lipid bilayer.
