The gravitational redshift

Clocks in a strong gravitational field are predicted to run slower than they would in a weaker field. Light is an oscillation (of electric and magnetic fields), a kind of clock, and its frequency is thus predicted to be lower where gravity is stronger. White dwarf spectra show red-shifts as compared to main sequence stars of the same temperature; the red-shift is just what general relativity implies.
