Some surface features are easily observable. Sunspots are the most
obvious of them. These are seen to move across the surface,
because the sun is spinning. They disappear off one edge and reappear at
other. After about 30 days they have returned to where they started.
From this we conclude the sun takes 30 days to spin once.
