Spectra and Distances

Some galaxies are too far away for their distance to be measured by any of the methods above, but not too far away for their spectra, and corresponding red-shift, to be measured. Their distances are inferred from their red-shifts: Hubble's Law is assume to hold, even for these objects whose distances are otherwise unknown.
